The rashi is the last card drawn and the only one that fixes a month. It does not change the answer — it dates it.
Every sign carries an element, a modality and a ruling planet, and those three decide how the timing behaves. A movable sign brings the date forward; a fixed sign holds it; a dual sign splits it in two.

The element is the deepest layer under a rashi — it decides the temperament that colours whichever month gets named.
Rulerships here are classical Vedic throughout — Saturn rules Aquarius, Mars rules Scorpio, Jupiter rules Pisces. No modern rulers are used anywhere in this system.
